The film
There is no single way to be a scientist.
She Measures the Earth follows four women scientists from Girls On Ice Canada ↗ as they navigate earth science, personal identity, artistic expression, outdoor adventure, and mentorship, expanding the idea of who belongs in science and how knowledge can be made.

If she stretched out her skin
To measure the Earth
Would you take notice
The scars marring her landscape
Taut stretch marks in spaces you seated in pressure
Sanguineous rivers escape as she rolls and wanes between the barren, sharp valley.
If she poured out her soul
To measure time
Would you care
The salty streams make windy paths
Her reddened eyes dart to and fro, searching for the end
Hushed sobs silenced under the weight of tomorrow.
If she laid down her bones
To measure life
Would you see
One by one, their fragility and strength
White matrix netted together between the fine shards
Snapping them underfoot as you fight your way along her path.
If she set down her life
To measure yours
Would you hear
The cracking of teeth on broken promises
Her silent screams echo in the vestibule of your cathedral
As she prepares a passage through earth to ancient ruins.
